Dear Friends,
I want to share with you some news about transitions here at the Coalition. After 26 years serving as the Executive Director of this amazing organization, I am stepping down as the Executive Director and transitioning to the Board of Directors at the end of August. It has not been an easy journey to my decision – I am passionate about the work that I have been doing with the Coalition for over two decades.
The people I have worked with – my co-workers, Board members, volunteers, supporters, and colleagues – have been one of the best parts of my job. Your wisdom, humor, deep caring, and vision are sources of inspiration to me every day and make me so grateful to be part of this vital and connected organization.
I have learned so much from all of you and our community partners about the tenets of conservation biology, as well as the wildlife, plants, land, and unique culture of our corner of the Sonoran Desert, and how best to protect this special place into the future. Thank you for all the support and guidance you have provided over the years.
I have a tremendous amount of confidence that what we have built as a strong voice will continue. We have institutionalized our culture of “shared leadership” of the Coalition team and now have two Co-Executive Directors. Kathleen Kennedy, longtime Associate Director, will now serve in the role of one of those positions. As we begin our search for, and hire, the other Co-Director, I know that our work will continue in a seamless fashion. That is the foundation we have built, with the passion and expertise that exists in our community.
I want to sincerely thank the Coalition’s amazing Board of Directors, staff, member groups, Advisory Committee, and supporters for entrusting me with their leadership. And I will continue to be involved with the Coalition as we face the challenges of the future.
For the Desert,
Carolyn Campbell, Co-Executive Director
